Sao Paulo vs Coritiba: Betting Preview

Sao Paulo vs Coritiba betting tips. Two teams in the bottom five meet in Sao Paulo, with one on the up and the other falling at a rapid rate. Both are in need of a win, so an entertaining game is expected. Infogol’s Analyst previews the game, using unique stats and data points to select the best bets.

Sao Paulo

It hasn’t been the season may Sao Paulo fans had been hoping for, and after a very poor start they find themselves in the lower echelons of the division. They sit fifth bottom of Serie A after 17 matches, but since sacking manager Rogério Ceni at the beginning of July they have slowly improved.

Things looking up for Sao Paulo

They have won two and drawn one of their last three matches, which has brought an air of optimism back around the club. They beat Botafogo last time out in what was a thrilling encounter, with Sao Paulo scoring three in the last five minutes to secure a famous 4-3 victory. It was a deserved win as they created the better of the chances, and showed everyone that they will be fighting until the last minute of the season.

A good performance to go with a great result

They now have their sights set further up the league after a string of three solid performances, finding themselves on the fringes of Copa Sudamericana places. That has to be their aim for the rest of the season, and with the way they have been playing, they could have a real crack at achieving a Copa Libertadores place.

Coritiba

On the other hand, Coritiba have been in free-fall after a good start to the season. They won four of their first five matches to leave their fans dreaming about a top six finish, but they were fortunate to get the results they did in those matches.

Their fall has been somewhat incredible, going from winning four of five, to winning just one of their last 12 league matches and drawing just four. They now find themselves in a desperate situation, as not only have their results been poor, but their performances have been very poor too, especially recently.

Things going from bad to worse for Coritiba

Their last three defeats to Ponte Preta, Flamengo and most recently, Atletico Mineiro, has seen them conceded a lot of chances and create very few. In those three games, they conceded 8.88 xG, creating just 2.26 xG, showing just how poor they have been. Coritiba have actually been fortunate not to have conceded more goals in that time after below par defensive performances.

Improvements needed for lowly Coritiba

Conclusion

Coritiba are the out-of-form team in Brazil’s Serie A at the moment, and look vulnerable in every game they play. Sao Paulo look to have turned a corner in recent weeks, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them win this game, and do so in authoritative style.
