Gremio vs Santos: Betting Preview

Gremio vs Santos betting tips. Second take on third in Brazil’ Serie A, with both looking to stay in touch with leaders Corinthians. Both are in good form, so this should be a good game. Infogol’s Analyst looks at the game, using unique stats and data points to select the best bets.

Gremio

Gremio come into this match unbeaten in four matches, but a three match winning streak was brought to an end by Sao Paulo last time out. They drew 1-1 in a game which neither team created many good chances, something Gremio have been doing regularly of late.

After a solid start to the season in which they were the best team according to expected goals (xG), they have gone off the boil in recent weeks. In their last four games they have averaged just 0.78 xG per/game, and in the four prior to that they were averaging 1.5 xG per/game – a big difference.

Out of Form? Gremio not performing at their best

They have been fortunate in recent weeks to get the results they have, but have shown throughout the season that they are capable of dominating teams and generating plenty of chances. They will need to find one of those performances in this match if they are to get the three points.

What Gremio are capable of

Santos

Santos are the in-form team in Brazil at the moment having won four and drawn one of their last five matches. They come into this match on the back of a 3-0 thrashing of Bahia, a game in which they created a host of chances. Bruno Henrique hit a hat-trick in that match to get off the mark for the league season, and he followed that up with a goal in the Copa do Brasil – he could be key.

Dominant display from Santos

They too have been fortunate in recent weeks to have picked up the amount of points that they have, after their performances have been below par. They were second best against both Sao Paulo and Atletico Mineiro, conceding a lot of chances in those matches, showcasing a defensive frailty. Games versus Vasco da Gama and Chapecoense were marginally better, but they were still second best in terms of xG, so need to improve.

More consistency needed by Peixe

Conclusion

A tight game is expected between these two good teams, so don’t expect many goals. The home team should edge proceedings, and may win without conceding.
